Day 1 - Honky tonk Billy who?

Leaving Belton, we travelled North towards Dallas to collect Chey from the airport, she came in from San Fransisco to join us in our wild west adventures. It was great to be reunited after two months, and even as Saffas (South Africans), we cursed the heat. Our destination was Billy Bob's Texas, known as the largest honky tonk in the USA, plugging it in our faithful GPS we were on our way. Arriving in Forth Worth, we were pleasantly taken aback by the vastness and pure serenity of the South. Much to our disappointment, Billy bob's was closed that night, alas, we googled our hotel " Hotel Texas " checked in, checked it out, and then made our way down the main road of Fort Worth Stockyards.

Saloons, bars and pubs blanketed the road with country music and cowboy boots - a true welcome into the heart of Texas. Basement bars, and boots and babes, we toured our way to the end of the road to indulge in a Jack in the box value meal to power up for what was to be our last stop, the Thirsty Armadillo. If you ever caught in an indecisive wardrobe dilemma in Texas, cowboy boots and short denim shorts are the way, you will blend in like white on rice. Sharing some bud lites, or Chey a boot full of blue booze, we sat to the side listening to live music. Scoping out the scene, we rated some cowboys, judged some woman trying to recapture their youth via wardrobe, and naturally, tried to fit in. After a few more buds, we socialised our way to the pool table. It was here we met our first true Southern boys, Jake, James, Jacob and Taylor. A wonderful first impression. Funny, welcoming, friendly and generous. We spent the night teasing their accents, drinking shots and playing pool. Entertaining different accents is fascinating and eye opening, realising how small you are in this crazy big world. Ya'll was the word of the night, and rolled off the tongue with a grin. We drank into early hours of the morning, attempted to share a game of kings, climbed a ladder to the roof, drove past the largest mill grain in the States, entertained some cheesy pick up lines like the beer moving, kissing beer bottle move, or succumbing to Chey's attempts to hit on the hot lonely cowboy at the end of the bar only to spend an extra $7. All in all, we rocked that first night, so much so that day two resulted in a somewhat rocky result on its own.
